    What Causes Weight Gain?

Weight gain can result from increased muscle mass through exercise, or increased storage of calories as fat. While a lean body and muscle mass is considered favorable and is associated with several health benefits, storage of body fat is not the objective for a healthier you.

There are many reasons a person will gain weight (fat).  Some examples are:

    1. Men between the ages 30 to 35 gain weight around the “middle” called abdominal obesity.  As men age, it is probable for levels of free testosterone to decline and estrogen and insulin to increase.
    2. Imbalance of estrogens and progesterone may play a pivotal role in the dynamics of metabolism and abdominal fat accumulation.  This may also create carbohydrate cravings and edema as women age.
    3. Stress hormone imbalance causing an increase in Cortisol which will promote insulin resistance, also known as a decrease in insulin sensitivity, and lead to obesity.
    4. A decrease of thyroid hormone (hypothyroidism), which can slow down your metabolism and promote weight gain. Although many people attempt to take thyroid supplementations to correct his problem, they are actually causing muscle wasting.
    5. Insufficient number of neurotransmitters (chemical messengers responsible for depression, stress, anxiety and insomnia) can cause weight gain.
    6. Food addictions.  Unfortunately, many of us love to eat, it is important to balance your diet and make healthier choices.
    7. Deficiency in amino acids, such as tryptophan and tyrosine, can increase carbohydrate cravings and slow the body’s metabolism.
    8. Undetected food allergies.  This may potentially cause hypersensitivity to a particular food which assists the body in storing fat.
    9. Toxin build up in body due to pesticides, occupational exposure, processed food and etc.
    10. Lack of Nutrition- Certain vitamins, minerals, and essential fats.  This is key to proper metabolism, insulin action and weight control.
    11. Yeast infections can induce cravings for sugars and also cause weight gain.

What Can Access Rehab and Rejuvenation Do Differently?

Losing weight is a science, and with any science, finding the cause, effect and resolution takes patience and focus.  Therefore, Access Rehab and Rejuvenation focuses on you as an individual and begins the process by finding the root cause of your weight gain. By targeting the access point of your weight gain, we are then able to create a solid plan of resolution to REMOVE THE WEIGHT FOR GOOD!

Weight gain does not segregate anyone and is mechanically different for each person.  Everyone is different; male, female, young, mature. Therefore, a weight loss program that worked beautifully for your neighbor may not be appropriate for you.

As mentioned in the beginning, Dr. Vijay Kalakata and his staff at Access Rehab and Rejuvenation will design a weight loss program tailored just for you by using a scientific approach to identify the root cause of the weight gain.

Are you wondering how the program works yet?  Well, let’s get started on your journey to a healthier you!

    How Does the Program Work?

During your first visit to the office, our medical staff will complete a detailed health assessment to identify weight loss obstacles and general health concerns.  Should any of these concerns be related to obesity, our medical staff can help and support you through a plan of improvement.

    Your health assessment includes:

    1.     Consultation with Physician
    2.     Weight & Body Fat Measurement
    3.     Blood Pressure Check
    4.     Waist Circumferenc/ Hip Circumference
    5.     Blood Work-Up
    6.     Personal Health Disclosures
    7.     Complete body analysis with BIA (fat, muscle and water content of body)

After assessing your body using the above components, we will begin to design your weight loss program unique for you!  First you will meet with Dr. Kalakata to review the results of the tests with you and answer any questions or concerns you may have. No question is too big or small.  The doctor and staff understand that some of the results may be difficult to understand, and will help you along the way. You are a vital part of making the program work.  That’s why we take the time to really LISTEN to YOU!

Upon determining the root cause of your weight gain, Access Rehab and Rejuvenation will begin treat your cause of weight gain. The program will be comprised of the appropriate combination of Therapeutic life style Program, FDA approved medications, hormones and nutrients to curb your weight and give you long term results. The medications may include prescription & non-prescription options and pharmaceutical grade supplements suited just for you rather than just simply prescribing general appetite suppressants.  In addition, a nutritional plan will be developed, including supplements if needed, along with other recommendations based on the results of the health assessment.

The combination of threes four main components is what makes our program successful.  It is easy to follow, quick to adapt into your normal lifestyle, and beneficial to your overall health and wellness. Our medically supervised program will provide you with a foundation to obtain weight loss at a healthy pace quickly and safely.

Once the program has been developed, you will then be asked to visit the office on a weekly basis.  The weekly visits will include assessment of weight, body fat, muscle and water content with BIA, blood pressure and waist circumference measurement, and re-evaluation of program.  You will also have the chance to meet with the doctor and staff to assess any presentable health risks, answer any questions, and provide you with educational materials if needed. We are also able to provide exercise counseling and support to assist with your overall goals as well.

Our specialized, therapeutic lifestyle program called First Line Therapy (FLT). FirstLine Therapy is a “therapeutic lifestyle program”. This means that this program will help you live your life in a way that improves your health.  A “therapeutic lifestyle” means making choices everyday that will enhance your health and help prevent disease, enabling you to achieve a full, healthy lifestyle.

The FLT program includes the initial body composition screening and follow-up testing; individual consultations; your personal FLT Patient Guidebook; scheduled follow-up visits; and Medical Foods and nutritional supplements. Our goal will be to help your health with targeted nutrition, exercise, stress management and sleep.

The body composition screening will include a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) as a method of assessing your body fat in relation to lean body mass. This is an integral part of a health and nutrition assessment. BIA is much more sophisticated than a bathroom scale, but just as painless and almost as quick.  It gives information to calculate body lean body mass, fat mass, total body water, intracellular water, extracellular water and their percentages. This will be good monitoring for you losing fat mass or lean body mass. It is very important for long term weight loss results because you should lose only fat mass, not muscle mass.

The Medical Food prescribed by Dr. Kalakata for your particular condition as well as the recommended nutritional supplementation. Depending on the condition being treated, the protocol, Medical Food, and nutritional supplementation will be personalized. A sample protocol may include:

Medical Food               1 week supply             $49.00

    EPA/DHA 1500mg       60 day supply              $42.00

    CoQ10 Liquid               30 day supply              $37.00

    Vitamin D3 5000iu      90 day supply              $21.00

The daily cost will average at about $10 per day. As you budget, consider the Medical Food will be a meal substitute and replace 2 daily meals. This alone may come close to negating the investment in the supplements.

If you are currently taking any of the recommended protocol, and have purchased it over the counter, we request you consider utilizing the clinic as your source moving forward, as this is the only way we can guarantee quality and potency of your formulas.
